Theoretical Orientation

Though the training process is similar for many, each therapist adheres to their own set of treatment modalities, often meaning the details of the therapy process vary from practitioner to practitioner.

Chelsie works primarily from a 4 phase Adlerian perspective, using a combination of client-centered and directive strategies for both children and adults. These methods are accompanied by education of symptoms as well as cognitive behavioral & dialectical behavior therapy skills as needed.

Phases of Adlerian Play Therapy

Building the Relationship

The beginning sessions are all about getting to know you! In the first session, we will gather basic information about your lifestyle, history, and desired outcomes for therapy. You will then set some goals for your treatment and work toward building a trusting and supportive relationship with your therapist.

Exploring Lifestyle & Gaining Insight

During these two phases of the therapy process, the therapist and client are working together to uncover more in depth information about the client's lifestyle, thought & behavior patterns, worldview, and needs. They will explore potential reasons for these patterns and then use the insight gained to identify necessary changes for improved functioning.

Reorientation
(& goodbye)

The reorientation phase of therapy is where the lasting change happens. In this phase, the therapist provides guidance and support as the client turns knowledge into action, intentionally making changes to the lifestyle, thought processes, and patterns of managing emotional reactions.

When we start to see successful growth, we often stretch out the length of time between visits, gradually working toward a goodbye & ending with a celebration! (You can always come back if you need to).
